HR Interview Questions and Answers

Question 1. Tell me about yourself?
Answer: It is the most often asked question in interviews and also the trickiest question. Start by telling why you are well qualified for the position. Remember, always match your educational & experience qualification to what the interviewer is looking for. In other words, you should give information what the interviewer is looking for. Be careful that it should not seem rehearsed.
Question 2. What are your greatest strengths?
Answer:  Number of answers are good to give, but in positive manner. Some good instances are:
About your problem solving skills, ability to work hard, professional expertise, leadership skills, positive attitude etc.
Question 3. Do you have any blind spots?
Answer: Disguise your strength as a weakness. Beware this is an eliminator question, designed to shorten the candidate list.
Question 4.  Why should I hire you?
Answer: Try to know the interviewer’s greatest needs and demands, this question will give you advantage over other candidates and give him best facts for hiring you than someone else.
Question 5. Why did you leave your last job?
Answer:  Always answer in a positive manner regarding reason. Never talk negatively or badly about your previous organization. If you do, you will cut a sorry figure. Give suitable reasons for leaving last job.
Question 6.  Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Answer: Don’t be too specific. Make assure interviewer that you wanna make a long-term commitment with the organisation and this is the exact position you are looking for.
Question 7.  Describe your management style?
Answer: Tell about some common labels as  progressive or consensus etc. can have several meanings or descriptions depending on which management expert you listen to. The situation style is safe, and fits to all.

Question 8.  Are you a team player?
Answer:  Of course, I’m a team player. Always say this and should have examples ready. Tell that you often perform for the good of the team rather than mean is good evidence of your team attitude.

Question 9.  How would you be an asset to our organization?
Answer:  Highlight and let them know about your strengths. This is the exact question where you can win their heart and with confidence.

Question 10.  Do you have any questions for me?
Answer:  Always have some questions prepared for the interviewer. How soon will I be able to be join? etc.

1.    Why should I hire you?

2.    How did you prepare for this interview?
The intention of this HR interview question is to decipher how much you really care about the job or if you’re simply going through the motions or winging it. You Answer Should be something like “I very much want this job, and of course researched it starting with the company website.” Beyond explaining how you’ve done your homework, show it. Reveal your knowledge of the industry, company or department by asking informed questions and commenting on recent developments.
3.    Where would you really like to work?
The real agenda for this HR interview question is assurance that you aren’t applying to every job opening in sight. Never mentioning another company by name or another job title because you want to highlight all the reasons you’re perfect for this job and that you’ll give it all of your attention if achieved. A good response would be: “This is where I want to work, and this job is what I want to do.

6.     If you won the lottery, would you still work?
Admittedly, this HR interview question is a little silly. Even so, it’s another opportunity to underscore your motivation and work ethic. This company is on the list of most admired companies every year. I want to play a role in ensuring this company stays on that list. I want to be part of a company that offers no less than quality in terms of products and after sales services.
8.    Do you consider yourself successful
Yes. During my ___ year career, I have learned to set goals and to make sure I meet each of it. I make sure obstacles do not hinder me from reaching my goals, but instead should inspire me to exert more. I believe the new position I am applying for will enable me to reach up higher and be more successful.
9.    Are you willing Travel
Yes. I love traveling. Adjusting in new places and meeting new people would be a delightful experience for me.
10. What are your salary expectations?

As of now, I haven’t thought much about it. I’m more focused on learning the requirements for this position that I am applying for.

11.What motivates you?

Many things motivate me. My goal to be the best of what I can be often motivates me to go beyond my own expectations. When I see myself being productive every day, it motivates me to continue.

12. Are you a team player?

Yes, definitely. While I will deny the fact that I can work independently with minimal supervision, I’m also one companion every leader would ever wanted to be in his team. Whatever task is assigned to me, I make sure it meets and exceeds what is expected of me. I also make it a point to reach out to teammates whenever needed.

13. What is your philosophy towards work?

I have only one philosophy when it comes to work: every piece of work, regardless of size, has to be done on time and in the right manner.

14. Are you willing to work overtime? Nights? Weekends?

I understand that being asked to work for an extended number of hours comes with a good reason in the first place, so I’m ok with it. It an extra effort means something for the company, I’ll be happy to do it.

15. What will you do if you don’t get this position?

I have high hopes that I will be hired. In case it turns the other way around, I would have to move on and search for another job.

I have attended in several self-improvements, time management and personality development seminars. I have also participated in training workshops related to [industry].

As much as possible I would like to be in this company for a long time. For as long as management sees me as an asset, I am willing to stay.

I understand the nature of this position that I am applying for quite well, along with the pressure that comes with it. Being under pressure doesn’t discourage me, it motivates me more.

If you can’t add any value to the company, the interviewer will not be very interested in knowing how this job can offer you a career progression and how much you enjoy taking up new challenges. The best way is to keep the focus of your answer on how your skills, experience and personal qualities fit into the requirements of this particular position.
